UNICEF

United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) is a body created by the UN General Assembly in 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II. UNICEF was founded by Polish physician Ludwik Rajchman who served as its first chairman.

The organisation works in 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence.

Their purposes institute:

• sustaining early childhood and adolescent development and child protection,
• acknowledging the struggle of children with disabilities, • promoting gender equality in education, innovative solutions in schools,
• educating on climate change action and the impact it has on children (affected by rapid urbanization or by environmental degradation),
• providing humanitarian aid for children in conflict zones and zones highly exposed to outbreaks of epidemics
• working to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path.

UNICEF's distributes such essential items as vaccines, medicines for children and mothers with HIV, nutritional supplements, emergency shelters and educational supplies.
